Connecticut Cities – The Most Populous Cities in Connecticut

Connecticut is a U.S. state located in the southern part of New England. This state has a mixture of coastal cities, small towns, and rural areas. Coastal cities like Mystic are known for their historical sites, such as the Seaport museum with centuries-old ships. Small towns like New Haven have world-famous peabody museums and Yale University. New Haven also has a number of renowned museums, including the Peabody Museum of Natural History.

For visitors looking for something quieter, consider New Britain, a small city that’s less than an hour south of Hartford. New Britain is aptly nicknamed the Hardware City because of its long history in manufacturing. Stanley Black & Decker is based in the city. Despite the small town feel, New Britain has plenty to offer in terms of higher education, with Charter Oak State College and Central Connecticut State University. In addition to the academic institutions, New Britain offers a wealth of museums, parks, and restaurants.

The Connecticut population map shows population development for cities and towns that have over fifteen thousand people. In some cases, towns have adopted the city form of government without having to re-incorporate as an inner-city. In addition, Connecticut state law does not distinguish between a consolidated town and a regular town. The most populous cities in Connecticut are shown in bold. The state’s only counties that are without a city are Tolland and Windham. There is one other city in Connecticut that is not a city: Vernon, a CDP.
